Synopsis

The Akal / Grove Dictionary of Music sets a new criterion within the reference books in a single volume, thus responding to the musical needs of a broad spectrum of readers, from beginners seeking clear and succinct explanations to advanced students, music lovers and professionals. The selection of the articles is based on a careful examination of the 20 volumes of the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (1980), reference book considered essential internationally and in the elaboration of which have collaborated more than 2,000 specialists. The dictionary has more than 10,000 entries referring to composers, terms, instruments, institutions, interpreters, musical works, etc. It also contains illustrations and musical examples.
